Lightsolutions partners with various contractors and end-users on many projects around the country where it combines its expertise in emergency lighting, LED retrofits and maintenance to deliver tailor-made solutions.
In line with the construction products regulation and further legislation coming down the line from Europe we actively promote the circular economy by supplying luminaires and retrofit solutions where parts are both replaceable and recyclable. Climate action is not only about recycling. The true circular economy is about keeping products at their highest value for as long as possible.
The LED industry is going back to its roots. During the ’80s lighting manufactures produced fittings that lasted 15 to 20 years! Parts just didn’t go faulty. In the office if a fluorescent tube failed we would simply replace it – keeping things in use was the norm.
Move forward 30 years and all the focus was on energy efficiency as oppose to design and sustainability. Return on investment was the mantra so the figures added up for the accountants.
So what’s the problem? The lighting industry fell into the throw away economy like everyone else. LEDS and control gear were integrated so if something failed you had to replace the whole thing which like every other industry is adding to our big problem of global warming.
“The only person who thinks we can have infinite growth in a finite world is either a lunatic or an economist. “David Attenborough. So thankfully we are now producing sustainable light fittings like the old days.
So next time you are upgrading your offices or factories, investigate if the fitting can be retrofitted before you go down the replacement route. You may be surprised how cost effective and simple this process is.
